This is how i see it:

When EQ2 patch i need to go to iseq2 twonq to figure out which one is working for me,
download and copy it over then run with innerspace and run isxeq2 once eq2 has loaded ?

is this correct, it seems a bit hit and miss?

many thanks in advance.

The DAY that eq2 tells you "Client Mismatch" when trying to login you run the patcher and wait for a new isxeq2 to be released. Other than that you don't have to do anything.

If you happen to not patch on patch day, you will have to go download the EXE that matches the date when trying to load isxeq2 or go into the chat room and read the TOPIC (dont ask) which will tell you which version (aka date of the exe) of isxeq2 is out. download accordingly... Really isnt rocket science.

ahh tried that and never worked, :( here is what i did:

last time i downloaded each exe in turn until i got one working as my previous post on this subject, i have been away for a few days and when i log in today it says version mismatch, so i log out and run the patcher, i load eq2 and hit the "tilder" int he box i type run isxeq2 and it patches, then the game crashes and dumps me out.

So that is why i assume i have to go through the exe's again until i get a working one?

I also dont understand this comment: read the TOPIC (dont ask)

I have been a long standing member of MQ and fully understand their mindset regarding open source projects and free software, alas this is not one of those projects, this is a paid for subscription service and i thought such things would be discussed openly?

Thing is this has been answered many times over the years, I really wish we had a sticky for the whole process so we could just link it and be all set.

Here's the deal, you patch the day the client says client mismatch. Then exit the game and launch through innerspace from there on out. When the extension is updated you can do a ext isxeq2 and it will autoupdate. This is the perfect case scenerio (your around during patch times)

Otherwise say you were gone for a week, well now there are several versions of the client going around. In th is scenerio you would patch eq2 with a normal login and then exit. Check the forums for the latest "forced patch" thread which would give you the date of the forced patch. Go to twonk and download the everquest2.exe for that particular date and place it in your everquest2 directory overwriting the newer one. Then log in with innerspace and watch the extension patch.

Discuss openly at your own risk. We flame at will there. Think MQ but not QUITE as harsh overall. Reasoning follows...

When you hear the same question repeated a thousand times in a day, every patch day, flames tend to come fast and free. Also, you do not pay for support. You pay for exactly what Amadeus said you pay for, which is laid out quite plainly as you go through the acquisition steps just before setting up your subscription:

Product Acquisition Step 3 said:
As you can see from that statement, you do not pay for any form of support whatsoever. Almost all support you will find in IRC and on these forums is provided by users just like you. The only "official" support comes from Amadeus himself, and he does not promise to provide any of that outside of the statement listed above.

Please don't take this the wrong way, it's simply a statement of fact. Too many people have come through demanding support for a product they pay for, and being upset when they can't get paid support. Not enough people actually read the pages they click through when signing up.

If you come into this community expecting everything to be handed to you on a silver platter, you will be met with negativity. If, however, you come to the community with a willingness to learn (at least the basics) and a thick enough skin to get through the initial flames, you'll get a lot more out of the experience!

Thats perfect thank you, and is exactly my scenario.

If you come into the irc chat and ask, "When will the extension be released" or "What EXE do i need?" someone will reply, "Read the topic". I really say that to help you out. Out side of that, feel free to talk and discuss in the chat room.

Understood, the only thing we could not openly discuss on MQ was afking, i was just confussed why you could not even talk about a thread that offers help?

But i dont want to get into a flame war, i understand how these boards work.

Many Thanks

Oh, it can be openly discussed, but if you come in asking the same question as everyone else, when the answer is in the topic of the channel, you're going to get hollered at. AFK anything here, as well as any PvP automation, is also strongly discouraged and a taboo subject.

As a newb, this isn't accurate for me. I mean, we've been using a .exe from December.

It would be really really really really really really nice if there was an easier way to find out which .exe to use. In my error, I've attempted to use .exe's from the Force patch day on the binary page, those never work. It's always a specific file, often, from a previous month, week, or day.

I read these forums and always see "put the square peg in the square hole" but no one ever bothers to mention the peg has to be a specific color or it doesn't work.

Please tell me what I am not seeing or where I am not looking.

Thanks.

coulda swore we have explained several times in this post. If you type ext isxeq2 it will tell you which one you need to get.

current topic from #isxeq2 on irc.lavishsoft.com...
Topic for #isxeq2 is: [ISXEQ2] (Latest Release: 20100126.0035) -=- ISXEQ2 for beta server at http://www.isxgames.com/isxeq2/test (LIVE version is always at http://www.isxgames.com/isxeq2/Extensions/ISXEQ2.dll)
See where it says Latest Release is 20100126.0035? lets look at everything to the left of the decimal. 20100126... 2010 (year) 01 (janurary) 26 (26th). This leads us to Jan 26, 2010 EXE file. I believe when you try to load an incompatable extension it will say something like, 20100126.0035 failed to load, you are using the wrong everquest executable.

Not sure how i can make this simpler.

It's already simpler. The error message received when loading the extension in an incompatible exe tells you, in plain english, the date of the executable to download. It says, for example, "You need to download the FIRST exe patched on January 26th 2010."

Now, I understand how this may be difficult to read if english is your 14th language, but seriously. This is NOT rocket science. Try not to make this more difficult than it really is. Read. Understand. Enjoy.

I appreciate the help fellas.

Yesterday I got the Jan 26th version and it still didn't work. This is probably an ID10T error if it is working for everyone else. I would assume it is or you would have mentioned it. I downloaded the file, extracted to my eq2 folder as usual, using the location from my pull down list in winzip. When this doesn't work, I automatically think it hasn't been updated, yet.

Sometimes I live in the Twilight Zone. Not the world of emo vampires, but the world where something I've done exactly the same, several times in the past, is now incorrect.

So maybe that is it. Going to try again now.

Seeing the updated file in the ISX window on start up and having that file not work for me is the reason for my previous post in this thread.

And I was having a terrible day. I apologize for any hint of venom in my text.

Okay, I'm up an running now.

Definitely an ID10T error.

I'm noticing... if I see the ISX window when I load the game, something is wrong...? as this time, when it worked, I didn't see the window?

not sure i know what you mean by an isx window. The only window the extension gives you is to put in your isxgames account info.

id guess he means the console popping open when isxeq2 doesnt/cant update, semantics guy :p

does the IS console pop open when the extension doesnt load properly? I wouldnt know because i refuse to auto load the extension so anytime i am loading the extension, the console is open.

Yes. Pops up any time there is an error on load. From not loading due to miss match to not loading from billing.

Not to continue the issue but I had a thought....

Why hasn't anyone just added a pop up window to auto download a exe if its not the correct one? It would really only take 15 seconds to update the pop up each patch.

Just something I have wondered...

Extensions run from inside the game, and you can't update the Everquest2.exe when it's in use. If the extension tried to exit the game then it would cease to exist when Innerspace unloads it before closing the game process.

This would be an interesting concept, and possibly a good script for one of our up and coming scripters to work on. I can see this being doable with an uplink-runnable script to do the copying and restart of the session.

That would have to be a custom script for quite a few people. As the script would be looking in a specific directory, unless it ran an auto search, which I have not done so am not sure if it can. Novel idea, but in the end, would need to include instructions to change the path of where your EQ2 directory is.

Really? Ever looked at the Inner Space wiki?

Try this: In your EQ2 session, type this in the console and let me know if it reports the correct folder for your EverQuest2.exe

Code:
echo ${System.CurrentDirectory}
Also try this:

Code:
echo ${Profile.GetString[Path].Escape}
When a maintainer of a major script says something can be done relatively easily, you might want to believe it.

There is also .NET (i.e., C#) which is capable of just about anything if you know what you're doing.

Valerian

Who cares about .NET? All this could be accomplished by a couple scripts, one to run in startup/prestartup to catch your wrong exe error trigger, and one to start in the uplink to copy an exe and relaunch the profile.
