Crashing Problems

Hi all. I was hoping I could get some feedback to try to figure out why I keep crashing out of the game. I recently purchased a new LG monitor (the new superwide curved one) and I'm wondering if it has something to do with my graphics cards not being able to handle the larger monitor. Then, of course, it could be something that has changed since Altar of Malice came out and updates to isx because of it. I've tried playing in different resolutions to see if maybe the resolution was just too high for eq2 but that wasn't it.

Here's what happens: I don't get an error message or anything. I'll be playing and then suddenly my entire screen goes blank. The odd thing is that every time this happens the screen turns to a random solid color. One time it happened it was white; another time it was all purple; even though my computer power shows on, everything stops responding. I am always on Skype when playing (never been a problem for years), and I know the computer stops responding too because my friend on Skype says she can't see or hear me anymore when it happens.

I updated my Nvidia drivers to the newest to be sure it wasn't that either. I uninstalled the split screen function that comes with the LG monitor to make sure it wasn't that. I also uninstalled every single program added since I got this monitor just to be sure it wasn't that. At first I thought it was due to a flash game I usually had playing in a browser window while eq2 was open so I tried making sure no other programs were open and that didn't work either. This only happens in eq2. I can work all day long with anything else and no problems.

I have an Alienware Aurora that is about 4 years old. It has two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti cards which I know are pretty old so I'm wondering if maybe they just don't have the power to run the monitor when I'm rendering all the graphics in eq2? I'm hoping somebody might have an idea or a solution that doesn't include buying new cards though =)

Also, even though I have SLI it is not enabled because I tend to have problems with crashes when I enable it so the game is probably running off of just one of the cards. If I remember right, eq2 doesn't support SLI anyway. Sorry for the length of the post but I wanted to provide as much information as possible. Thank you in advance for any ideas that might lead me to the solution of this problem.

Happy Holidays!

Try running OCCT's stability test(it has separate tests for CPU, memory and GPU). If you're getting hard locks something is likely broken hardware wise and it could be anything from PSU, memory, graphics card or even CPU. EQ2 is likely just triggering it because it places significantly more load on the machine than the rest of your activities.

Do not post your crash report in 4 different postings like that -- that's just silly. Paste it in one posting, highlight the text, and click the CODE icon from the icon bar (it's the 4th icon from the right.)

That being said, my question is this: is the end of every crash report look like this?
Code:
LavishScript Execution Stack:
-----------------------------------
${EQ2UIPage[Inventory,Market].IsVisible}
!${EQ2UIPage[Inventory,Market].IsVisible}
Running Scripts:
-----------------------------------
Buffer:OgreBot
OgreCustomArrayControllerScript
eq2ogrehireling
ogreincombatmovement
autoharvest
Buffer:OgreCraft
Buffer:OgreCraftUI
OgreCraftMove
Also, just looking over your initial posting - this may not be something that can be easily diagnosed or even fixed. Since you only got this error after changing hardware, and no other users have reported anything similar, and since there are no conditions here that can be recreated on a test machine with basic equipment ....well, you may just be out-of-luck.

sorry about that, I wasn't sure how to enter it as code text like you did and it wouldn't let me post over a certain amount of characters. Trust me, it was frustrating even having to post it like that. That is the only crash report I have even though it's happened several times. Maybe it is being overwritten? Also, in regards to the monitor I was hoping someone out there may be using the new large LG and had either experienced the same issue or was not having any issues in which case I could rule that out. I guess I will have to go back to another monitor to see if it keeps happening. I'll let you know if it crashes with my old regular monitor that I never had problems with (have to get it back from a friend), and then I guess if it works it would have to be the cards not being able to handle the new monitor. If so, I'm not sure I understand why since I am not using it at the high resolution but the next down which is the same one my other monitor ran on. I must say that there is an amazing difference in colors and I'm seeing the game in a whole new way (when it works at least) so I know the cards are having to work harder. Anyway, thank you again for the help and I'll post what I find out in case someone else runs into this issue. Thanks for all your hard work, Amadeus... I wouldn't play eq2 anymore without your brilliant code. I truly mean that - this girl doesn't brown-nose! I would really love to learn to do what you and Ogre do.

I'll look over the code and see if I notice anything that might be causing it. Can you make it crash consistently? In other words, if I was using teamviewer to look at your system, could you make it crash for me?

And, I believe that you don't brown-nose :) And, I see you've been here since 2010, so you've clearly been using isxeq2 for a while now!

If it's the new LG that's super wide, my buddy had complete system crashes when running Far Cry (newest one, maybe 4?) in an SLI configuration. What it came down to after he stripped it all down was a power supply not being able to handle the new monitor. Although it was rated at 650/750w I believe and had more than enough power, he found a thread online somewhere that stated at least 800w was needed (for whatever reason) to work with his setup and new monitor. Not sure if that helps at all but as soon as he swapped out the PSU, Far Cry no longer crashed his system.

Amadeus - Thank you! It has crashed several more times. I reinstalled the drivers again and it worked for about an hour and then crashed again (how system reboot). Hasn't worked again since. It might be what Sunomi said above. I have an Alienware Aurora R3 and I think it's power supply is 650 or 700. And yes, it is definitely something we can recreate and you can see through Teamviewer.

Sunomi -thank you for that. We may just find that's the issue and I will buy a new power supply if this doesn't work. Thanks!

Does EverQuest 2 crash if you play it without ISXEQ2? (With the same number of EQ2 instances running that you'd have running WITH isxeq2, of course.) Also, the crash report you gave before occurred while crafting (I believe) ...does the crash happen if you're doing just adventuring with all EQ2 instances/toons?

I've only tried it once in the game without isxeq2 and it crashed there too. I've only been trying to play with one instance. Yes, the crashes happen crafting, adventuring, or just standing still in my guild hall; sometimes, even from the character window if I leave it there long enough before entering the game.

Well, if it's crashing without isxeq2, then there's definitely nothing that I can do to help ...and, it probably is some sort of hardware/power issue.

Thanks, Amadeus. You did a lot to help. Now at least I know where to start troubleshooting my hardware. Happy New Year!
