Hi all. I was hoping I could get some feedback to try to figure out why I keep crashing out of the game. I recently purchased a new LG monitor (the new superwide curved one) and I'm wondering if it has something to do with my graphics cards not being able to handle the larger monitor. Then, of course, it could be something that has changed since Altar of Malice came out and updates to isx because of it. I've tried playing in different resolutions to see if maybe the resolution was just too high for eq2 but that wasn't it.
Here's what happens: I don't get an error message or anything. I'll be playing and then suddenly my entire screen goes blank. The odd thing is that every time this happens the screen turns to a random solid color. One time it happened it was white; another time it was all purple; even though my computer power shows on, everything stops responding. I am always on Skype when playing (never been a problem for years), and I know the computer stops responding too because my friend on Skype says she can't see or hear me anymore when it happens.
I updated my Nvidia drivers to the newest to be sure it wasn't that either. I uninstalled the split screen function that comes with the LG monitor to make sure it wasn't that. I also uninstalled every single program added since I got this monitor just to be sure it wasn't that. At first I thought it was due to a flash game I usually had playing in a browser window while eq2 was open so I tried making sure no other programs were open and that didn't work either. This only happens in eq2. I can work all day long with anything else and no problems.
I have an Alienware Aurora that is about 4 years old. It has two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti cards which I know are pretty old so I'm wondering if maybe they just don't have the power to run the monitor when I'm rendering all the graphics in eq2? I'm hoping somebody might have an idea or a solution that doesn't include buying new cards though =)
Also, even though I have SLI it is not enabled because I tend to have problems with crashes when I enable it so the game is probably running off of just one of the cards. If I remember right, eq2 doesn't support SLI anyway. Sorry for the length of the post but I wanted to provide as much information as possible. Thank you in advance for any ideas that might lead me to the solution of this problem.
Happy Holidays!
