group question from new user

I just started with Ogre, and am wanting some guidance on group setup

Zerker lvl 90/150AA/quested legendary gear
Inquis lvl 90/148AA/quested legendary gear
Wizzy lvl 90/146AA/quested legendary gear
Illy lvl 90/175AA/quested legendary gear (should I betray to Coercer)
Defiler lvl 83/202AA/TSO Shard healing gear

and one of these 2 or roll a new 6th toon probably a Warlock

Fury lvl 83/145AA/quested gear
Necro lvl 86/147AA/quested legendary gear

I know these guys are not even close to running any kind of raid content, but I want to make sure I start off down the right path to get there.

Along with the selection of group makeup, I am also looking for some advice on Ogre setups for the classes. All I can say is there is ALOT of customization in Ogre.

I will be using the examples from the wiki for their AA trees where listed.

I'm flexible as far as leveling and betraying toons goes, but want to start out right.

+1 on the troub. I personally prefer a coercer over an illy for boxing. I run sk, conj, troub inquit, warden, coer. I bet you can run through some SF raids with what you got and get decent gear. SF raid gear is awesome now (relatively speaking to non-raid dov gear). also if you're gonna be rolling a new troub roll another dps on your defiler account at the same time, so you can sub in more dps on easy stuff to kill faster. If you need any help pm me.

Zerker is better for a melee grp, id choose a SK if i were u for a mage grp. The rest is fine but like can said u need a troub.

Here are mine if your looking for recommendations. Also, you can try search function for grp make-up....theres a few posts out there.

Caster Grp:
SK, Troub, Illy (going to betray), Defiler, Templar (thinking about betraying), Warlock

Melee Grp:
Guard, Dirge, Coercer, Defiler, Inquis, Swash....i swap in an ass'n for the Inquis when killing trash.

I agree with going to SF raid content.....There was a post "1 Grouping Raid". read that and you will be on your way.

good luck!

Ok so this is my target group:

SK (on fury account, should allow for 2 tanks later if needed),Inquis,Wizzy,Illy (betraying this weekend),Defiler, Troub (on necro account)

Still leave the Zerker on his account for 7th toon, and running instance for gear on main toons till SK is leveled.

Mentoring to level the other two toons should help with the AA.

Now I have a question on the T1/T2 gear. I have a crafter who can make both, so should I focus on this route for gear, and supplement with drops while doing shards? What are the easier shard giving instances?

Thanks for the advice!

First get the toons you have to 300 aa!! Then I guess make a trub and the SK at the same time.

All,

I have been looking at my Pally and I am not overly pleased with his saves. Pallies get heals, but lack overall saves or stoneskins.

I am looking at my options now...I have a full set of EM red slot patterns for whichever class I decide to roll with.

So, my question is: what is the best tank class for a group consisting of:
Tank(?)
Coercer
Dirge (EM raid geared - does 65-110K)
Brig (EM raid geared - does 100K+)
Inq
Defiler

I am looking for feedback on my tank slot, but any other feedback will be taken into account...

Thanks.

I run a bruiser with that same exact setup and I wreck face. Brawlers are pretty legit this expansion and I have no issues holding hate or snapping it back in the event I lose it. Add in brawlers tenacity with AA's and that gives you a 3 hit stoneskin/death save which runs for I believe 1.5-2 minutes or 3 ticks whichever comes first. The mythical clicky self heal / parry / whatever else is pretty sweet and helps in a bind.

A lot of people run SK's too and I have one I swap in for my alt mage group but so far I'm pretty happy with my bruiser.

I run a guardian with your setup...I've been very successful. I also have an SK that I run with my mage grp which is also very successful. Out of the two....SK allot more fun to play.

I have been thinking about changing up the guard to a Bruiser after reading the boards.....Bruiser tanking does sound interesting!

fyi - I only have the guardian due to him being my 1st toon (7ish years ago) and I used to MT raids....beastly meat shield.

guardian for the yawn meat shield that can take a hit
SK for allot of life saves, heals, and can produce a shit ton of dps
Bruiser....just because it would look cool to MT in a Gi?

my 2 cents!

SK's have the highest tanking DPS and some of the best utility of tanks in DoV, but also have the lowest survivability when it comes to incoming DPS. Deathsaves is a bit of a wash, depending on whether you're happy to expend the effort required to manage deathsaves on a brawler vs having an always up 2 trigger deathsave on the SK.

If you're purely interested in doing heroic and some X2 content, SK is likely the best choice. If you want to MT X4 content, roll a brawler or guardian.

I have a monk (90/290). You guys are using a bruiser over monk?

Ultimately, my ordeal is I can alt raid gear my tank and I need him to overcome my healers' lack of gear. So, now it looks like brawler vs. Guard.

Bruisers have an AOE with a hate positional on it(somewhat like Grave Sacrament but shorter range), monks AOE's have better range but no hate modifiers. I generally prefer my monk when it comes to picking up adds, but my groups tend to be ST DPS focused(no warlocks).

Guard if you also want to use him for MTing raids, their stoneskins are almost a must have for making jousting situations stupid easy. Pal is another good choice actually, for long fights (i.e. x4 DoV content with a single group) their death prevent, which is a persistent buff that is up until it gets used, can be recast in combat, and is a real lifesaver on some fights like Kreegar who can every once and awhile just one shot you due to a variety of things.

All in all, the only tank I would suggest NOT to use, is a zerker. They just don't have any real tools that makes them a better tank. All the others have various things to recommend them for different situations.

You can make most groups work out if you do it intelligently, imho. I run a super weird "un-optimal" group and it works great so far. I really think you can be very successful with many different comps as long as you know the classes well and set it up right, all the tools are there, Ogre is awesome. I haven't done any raid content yet, though, and have only killed a couple things in drunder zones. Cleared all velious heroics (including TORZ) other than drunder, though. I expect to do some tofs x2 and some drunder stuff soon as I get geared a little more! :) All characters in only Ry'gorr/PQ level gear with zero raid gear (no x2 either), except the necro, who is in EM raid gear. Here's my group:

1. Guardian--easy mode aggro, can hold over much better geared dps. Good survivability. Can stoneskin and death save group (super useful). Massive group HP buffs.
2. Necro--dps, off tank if needed (there are also some encounters in some of the harder DOV heroics that are completely trivialized with a pet tanking them instead of a real player, cough cough), group potency buff, hearts, rez, etc. Animal form and other hp buffs gives 70-75k (depending on if certain temp is available) hp for ridiculous lifeburn damage.
3. Defiler--keeps peeps alive, doesn't have mystic dps potential but doesn't have any power worries.
4. Conjurer--yeah, another pet class. DPS, group stoneskins, group power regen in power drain fights. Large group hp buff or temp group AOE immunity procs if absolutely required (but lowers dps).
5. Illy. Time warp, synergism, mez, etc.
6. Fury. Cures/dps/heals/whatever

Anyway, so you can make things work outside the box. :p

For your group I'd say...
1. Consider betraying zerker to guard.
2. Inq is great choice
3. Wiz is good choice
4. I'd keep the Illy an Illy for now and only betray if you really really need to later on. Illy buffs are going to be super nice for the wizzy, and imho nicer for melee as well unless you are near haste cap (though the AOE auto attack isn't as valuable for a berserker who can already get 100%).
5. Defiler is good. Sure mystic may be flavor of the month because it's super good dps, but Defilers never run out of power and can keep group's power up as well. Plus one massive advantage is with mythical the group ward spell will heal your whole group up into the green in addition to warding them.

For your sixth I'd say: Going with popular choice and making a troub would be a safe bet. I probably wouldn't do fury, three healers would prolly lower dps a bit too much. You could make a necro and turn the wizzie into a lock, necro+lock+defiler go great together.
