I have a feeling that the rares per harvest decreases if the area you are farming doesn't include agro mobs.

So the days of harvesting a 'safe' area in the zone using a harvester for hours on end will end up with less rares per hour than manually harvesting an area with mobs that you have to kill occassionally.

I have certainly noticed that if I'm manually harvesting close to agro mobs and have to dodge them to reach a node I appear to get more rares in that area.

The code is that the longer you harvest the less chance you have for a rare.

So sessions lasting over several hours will not yield many rares.

That explains it....when I'm killing mobs as well as harvesting I get more rares.

The real question is at what point does the diminishing chance start? The key will be to relog your toon right before that point. I have been doing a lot of harvesting by hand without much luck so far.

The way i saw it was that it isnt about how long you are logged in, but doing other things while harvesting, such as... Harvest 50 nodes -> Kill a few mobs -> Repeat.

Somebody actually just posted on the official forums that 'They heard SOMEWHERE that if you harvest over 2 hours your chances to get a rare decrease.'

Dev replied to them with:
"Nope, this is just another random conspiracy theory. While I can't (well, won't) detail exactly what was done, it should not affect the rate at which legitimate harvesters get rares in any way at all. It makes no difference if you've been harvesting for 5 minutes or if you've been harvesting for 5 hours. And it makes no difference whether you're harvesting in a "harder" or "easier" area of that level range (those are very subjective definitions anyway)."

I don't care for how he tossed out "it should not affect the rate at which legitimate harvesters get rares". Makes me really curious as to what they did do now.

the server has no idea you are targeting something that you don't have LoS with, not that that matters because 99% of the time harvest bots dont target things until it is within range to harvest.
