How does the community view 6-boxing?

So, I was kind of curious as to how other players in game react when they see a 6 man group with 5 people on auto-follow running through quests or a contested dungeon, and I figured I'd ask you guys.

I'm really.. I dunno.. weird about taking a full group out to level. I just came back from a long break and am starting from scratch on a new server. I picked AB for some reason, but shortly after realized that the highest populated server may not have been the best choice. Regardless, what kind of reactions have you guys gotten while leveling your group?
Did you ever level through questing/running through those kick-ass contested dungeons for the XP? (with the new xp changes this seems like the best route..)

I know people don't like it when they're fighting for mobs in a contested dungeon, and generally if you're not a dick to people they don't care what you do. But for some reason I can get it out of my head that they always think something's going on behind the screen and get suspicious or something.
EQ2 has no problems with boxing, they even facilitate it, but should I have to worry about other players?
Or would it just be better to split the group up into 3 and 3 and just take twice as long to hit level cap?

Any input you guys have would be nice since different people probably have had different experiences.

Like you I'm always paranoid - so I tend to just stay out of people's ways as much as possible (stick to instances mostly). I also always censor what I'm thinking to try to not offend anybody in chat ever. Even then I've been nailed/banned 3-4 times so even that isn't foolproof. Conversely I've seen people that literally take their 24 man raid group out into public view, don't seem to give a crap, and insult everybody on the server on chat yet are still in game years later somehow. Antonia Bayle would definitely have to be one of the worst servers to do it on though - not only the size of the population but the actual populace are the type that are more likely to run crying foul if they suspect anything.

As far as I know SOE does not actively hunt botters that aren't using major cheat applications (duping, warping etc) but will respond to a report/petition. Be smart and stay out of contested areas and out of public view. Don't be a dipshit and openly talk about botting with people you don't/barely know. And don't go running around with 5 bots on follow. Someone will report you, forcing SOE hand.

Have you read this sticky of wise words? http://www.isxgames.com/forums/showthread.php/5538-Rules-of-Fight-Club-err-bot-club

Yes, I have. However, this is not a question of being an idiot and doing stupid shit in open contested areas.
Common sense is just that.

I just wanted to get a feel for how the community views this sort of thing. I wanted to know if people will be dicks and report/petition you just because you have characters on auto-follow. I go back and forth between thinking "it's no big deal" to "yeah, I definitely shouldn't."
Wanted a consensus from a bit more experienced people here.
It would be a lot faster to level everybody together. Sure it's a pain in the ass to break them up into groups and all, but it'd be more of a pain to get banned and not be able to play.

The problem is, it isn't people, it's running into that ONE person that does it.

I avoid contested zones at all cost.

When it comes to botting everyone is a potential threat, everyone is the enemy... be paranoid be very paranoid.

It only takes one person to report you to get a suspension/ban.

Well then I guess that settles it.

I'll continue leveling with small groups.

Thanks for the responses guys.

The GM's are looking for people that don't reply when they send them a tell.
I've never had any problems because I've always answered them pleasantly, sounding like English is my native language.
It's alot like drunk driving and a cop pulls you over and asks if you had anything to drink.
If you say 'only a sip from someone Else's glass', they are obligated to proceed as if you're probably drunk.

They won't just "send a tell" and then ban you if you don't reply. What the GM did for me when I was stupid was actually port in front of my bot group so he/she could be seen. At that point I realized I should probably pay attention :)

Yes, a much better description there. I always have them run in front of me for awhile so they catch my attention, in fact, now that I think of it, I'm trying to remember if they sent me a tell before i said something!
But yup, that's what they do now, they try to visually catch your attention.
And I remember when it happens to me, they are not on /who, i wonder if the isx picks them up in radar?

I'm curious as to what you guys mean..
Did they port in front of you in an open zone and then do something about it? Aka ban/suspend you?
I've been secretly trying to level in contested dungeons, frantically checking /who and calling to the GH at the first sign of others.
Do the gms just monitor that stuff without petitions and crap. And did you guys get slapped with suspensions when it happened?
That's my biggest fear, yet the xp in instances blow :/

XP in instances can still be nice. The main issue is that it's not constant pulls, if you're just running the zone as normal. If you clear CD and you'll have to wait 90 minutes to reset it. In that time you could swap over and run Lyc or DP, but it's still slow with all the bosses involved, esp with a group with lower levels in it. So, instead just clear out the trash, avoid the bosses.. wipe or escape if you agro them. The zone is resetable in 15 minutes instead of 90 if you avoid the bosses. Chain all 3 zones together and you get constant XP, which is easily comparable to running around in contested.

Honestly, follow what is written in the Rules of Bot club post.

I'd say, 99% of people who have received a ban or suspension in the past year, had 1 of the two things happen:
1) They were reported by another player.
2) They used an active hack - speed hacking, warping, duping, etc.

#1 really being the important part, because #2 is just being dumb.

Ah, yeah the problem is I just recently started up again and am starting from scratch.
Gotta get one guy to 95 at least, so I might as well do them all together. But thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that out once I'm grinding those last few AAs

Aaaand I agree. Avoiding contact with other people is something I excel at..

I play on Guk and must have been lucky because I ran contested all the time with no problems. That was 4 months ago though things could have changed since then. I never used speed, warp type hacks just ogrebot for my toons and that's it. That may be why I was never reported. I also responded to tells i received from that toon and not my main toon running MCP. It got hairy at times but pay attention and you should be fine. Guk is also pretty low in population as well. I would run a 6 man team and stick to the instance hopping like a previous poster recommended.
