Ogre Craft: Recipe books

I searched the forums and didn't find an answer.

I just realized that after several months of using Ogre Craft that my characters never scribe new recipe books. They will all purchase the appropriate recipe books when I begin writs, but they never scribe the necessary books when they level. I have the option to scribe new recipes upon level checked. Is there something I'm missing? I've noted this issue on an alchemist, woodworker, and provisioner; though I don't think that class would matter. The wiki says that new recipes will be scribed when crafting is completed. Does that mean that new recipes will be scribed after all writs to be completed/all items in the queue are crafted; or does that mean that recipes will be scribed after a single item has been created post leveling. The issue I run in to is that my character will level while doing a series of writs and their new level will make the existing writ option selection invalid since the latest crafting recipe has not been scribed.

Any help/clarification would be appreciated.

Do you really mean NEVER? So they NEVER (0% of the time) scribe books?

I haven't leveled a toon in some time now, so I need to see if it's an every single time, or happens every once in a while.

Yes Kannor. I've been using the program for over six months now and have leveled four crafters. In my experience, the bot has always purchased the correct recipes but has not scribed them when appropriate. I just tested it again this morning; completing a writ leveled my character. He already had the next level's book in his inventory. Instead of scribing the book, the bot got another writ quest. Since the new book was not scribed and the option 1 writ level had changed, I received the blue prompt that asks me to type the exact name of the recipe. I then exited the bot, deleted the writ, then restarted the bot and told it to start writs. Again, it did not scribe the recipe book; I had to do it manually.

If there is anything you would like me to try or conditions you would like me to set to experiment further, I'm happy to help.

Ogre craft does have option setting I believe that you need to check if you want then to scribe the recipes.

I am leveling 2 crafter right now, one at 50 and the other at 20 right now. Both buy the book and scribe them. I am doing writs.

Is there anything you can think of about your situation that would be different from the "mass". Like playing on a non-english server etc.

Kannor,

Nothing comes to mind. I am on a US server. I am going through the XML files and seeing if maybe there's a setting disabled that would explain why I am not scribing spells.

<Setting Name="ocui_checkbox_scriberecipesuponlevelgained">TRUE</Setting> (From OgreCraftingOptions)

I just watched another level up during writs. When the character gained a level, he did not scribe the recipe book that was in his inventory. The wiki says that the bot will scribe recipes when crafting is complete. Does this mean that recipes will be scribed when the battery of X (10) writs is done? After he leveled, I stopped crafting and exited the bot. I restarted the bot and started writs again to see if he would scribe the recipe; no luck. Is the bot programmed to check the status of recipes prior to commencing crafting? I'll keep testing and see if I find anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks again for the help.

Update on experimentation.

I reduced the writ count to 1 writ and started to watch the behavior.

While in the middle of a writ, a bot leveled from level 39 to level 40. When I clicked to start the next writ, the bot purchased recipes for levels 41-49. It did not purchase the level 40 recipe book.

I just watched the bot level from a writ (with a writ count of 1) and not scribe the recipe upon leveling. When the bot was started again, it did not scribe the level 41 book in its inventory. There is nothing abnormal in the console indicating a problem.

It only tries to scribe recipe books immediately after it levels. So closing and restarting, it won't try to scribe them again.

I can't think of anything that would have any affect on this, especially with you having that option enabled.

Oh... Only thing I can think of (and not sure if it even effects crafting..).. There is some kind of EQ2 option where you can have the text limited (meaning it sends reduced chat to your client). I wonder if it affects these types of messages too...
It's generally for combat.. for example: Mob hits you for 38 point of damage, can turn into: Mob hits you for 38. Therefore the bot can read them differently. Find this option inside of the EQ2 client and make sure it's not limited in any way.

I saw this problem occasionally. A character would level during a writ, not scribe and get the error. It was an intermittent problem for me. Maybe 1 time in 10.

Kannkor,

I figured out what was wrong. I didn't realize that the bot determined that the character had leveled by parsing text. My logs aren't truncated, but I found that I didn't have any text notification in my chat windows about leveling. In chat options I enabled "reward" under "character text". After I did that, recipes were scribed properly upon leveling. Maybe it would be worth it to have the wiki reflect how your chat options need to be set for autoscribing to work.

I do have a question though.

How does the bot determine what level the character is when you start it? What parameter does it look at? It will automatically purchase recipe books that you don't have when you start the bot but before you have any new text entered in to the logs. If there is a different way of determining crafting level, maybe it would be helpful to store the character's level prior to crafting, then compare the level after crafting is complete. If the number is different, check for the correct book in the inventory and scribe it. I would imagine that this would make it so chat options wouldn't prevent operation of a feature. Is this possible?

Again, thanks for the help and sorry for misspelling your name over and over!
