Router overloading.. what to do?

So Im still having my problem of random unplayable packet loss in random zones. Meaning sometimes HE will work sometimes it wont, sometimes ST will work sometimes it wont.

I find that if I unplug my router and plug my 2 computers into my modem (I have 2 ips) all the lag is gone. So I thought maybe the issue was the router itself. I went and purchased a new router, $100, same packet loss issues. I tried port forwarding, dmz mode, nothing. Always lagging when I use the router.

Any ideas as what to do? Or a router I should buy that isnt a sack o crap?

Oh and leaving it plugged into the modem isnt a solution as my gf gets really made when I shut down our condo's internet just so I can play "the game"

To clarify...

Are you providing your entire condo complex with Internet? Or are you talking about your individual unit only?

After using cheap routers for years and being annoyed, I got a decent cisco router and haven't had any issues. By far isn't top of the line or even close, but it's above the 'bottom of the line'.

Make and model of old router?
Make and model of new router?

BTW: If you say Belkin, I'm going to vomit. If you say D-Link, I'm going to snicker. If you say Netgear, I will begrudgingly accept that sometimes they work, but I'm not a fan, and have no EQ2/UDP performance experience with Netgear routers specifically. You generally can't go wrong with a linksys (bought by cisco as their 'consumer' line, held the cisco name for a while, and were spun back off on their own). And real (crazy) men use either brand name Cisco gear, or build their own linux routers from spare parts. :p

i can't imagine even the cheapest router falling over just from running eq2 sessions, are you sure someone isn't running torrents or some similar shit on your lan that opens and closes hundreds of thousands of connections?

* and why the fuck is this under scripts/ogrebot, don't we have mods?

Have you tried calling your internet provider? I had similar issues. I stopped playing about a year ago and at that time everything was fine no lag nothing. When I came back I could barely play with just one character let alone my team the lag was so bad. I called my isp and they had just done some upgrades a few months ago, the tech did something on his end (sorry can't remember what he said, I'm not very computer savvy) and now everything runs great.

welp bad news for me I suppose. After running it for a while plugged directly into my modem I started having the packet loss again. (Im just running it for my condo, not the condo complex). I used to use a dlink now im running an asus router but as I am having the issue with just plugged into the modem now Im assuming the router is fine.

This is a multiboxing eq2 problem only, If I have 1 instance of eq2 up, no packet loss, 6-12 = packet loss. While Im having the packet loss I can open up a stream and watch it with 1080p and have no lag.

Its zone dependent, meaning if Im lagging in one zone I can just move to another and the lag goes away.

Honesly Ive tried everything and Im am just so confused.

just logged into sleepers tomb, wasnt lagging last night, now I have 40% packet loss and cant cast a spell.

Unplugged router, plugged my 2 computers into my modem, lag gone.

Last night when my modem was lagging I plugged it back into my router and the lag was gone...

Sounds like your ISP...

The reason the lag probably goes away when you change devices plugged into the modem, is you'll get a different IP, and if they have something silly like a connection limit, it's per IP, so when you change, you move to an IP that hasn't hit the limit for that time period.

If you are correct then my isp are a bunch of liars. I have called them and asked if they have limits on bandwidth use and they said with the package I have there are no limits. I also don't know about this since I would assume if there was a limit then watching a stream would be effected.

Sadly I dont think my problem will ever be directly solved since I cant really tell sony what im doing lol (since 1 instance of eq2 works fine but who the fuck wants to play just 1 instance of eq2), I can tell my isp but they'll always just blame sony.

Well, you probably don't have a speed limit you are hitting, it will be something else that 99% of tier1 tech support won't have any idea about. I'm just spitballing possible things, there's plenty of other people here who may be able to give you a better idea/suggestion... other than changing providers.

I would say buy Cisco (Linksys EA6500) as it works fine but....Cisco just sold all its property rights to its networking items to Belkin so bah go with Netgear.
