Shaman Wards

Hey guys,

I have a shaman in my group and when I check on it during fights it is constantly refreshing its wards. My question is this - should wards be set to maintained so it does not constantly overwrite them? My group has an Inq and Mystic in it so I would like both to be able to dps as much as possible while keeping the group up.

Thoughts?

Personal preference.

If you are dying, heal more. If you aren't dying, leave it alone OR reduce your healing. All the options are there for you to tweak.

I let my mystic overwrite wards. Even on easy stuff I'd rather just pull everything at once instead of letting my mystic do dps.

The problem with setting wards to maintained is it will let it run out completely and then you don't have wards for 3-4 seconds while it recasts, instead of like a player who will recast it when it gets lowish.

What Kannkor said. Before my raidforce was suffiently geared, I took Maintained off all the wards, and basically overhealed my tank and squishy toons - this, of course, almost completely eliminates your healers from doing DPS. As my gear and survivability improved, I went back to maintaining wards, and I think the healing actually got a little better, as did the healer DPS, because more than just warding could take place. But YMMV - you just have to adjust things according to where your team members are at on the survivability scale.

Also, if you run more than one group, don't forget to look at using cross-group healing, because many wards and heals can be used outside of your group. So, for example, if your MT is having trouble surviving a fight, but the healing requirement for your group is easy (such as tanking Baroddas in place, for instance), you can have your second group beef up the wards and heals on the MT.

I wrote a little script for my shaman that will check the group/tank and see if the wards are still active, and if the ward still has more duration than the cast time, and about 25% of the ward capacity left. If not, it will recast it. I use this in conjunction with having the wards set to maintained in ogre.
