Multiple instances?

Sorry if this is off topic, but is it possible to run multiple instances of VG with IS? I was told to try it after asking on the mq2 board, but I get the same error as with trying natively. I was wondering if there was something I was missing or if someone had found some other workaround.

Either way, great job getting this up so quickly!

I had heard that there was a way that was recently added to do this (someone mentioned it on IRC); however, I do not recall the methodology.

Bypassing the patcher is not possible. At least, not as of yet, and the only way to get around it would be to reverse engineer the entire Launchpad and write a custom "non patching patcher". It's rather lame how they did it, but it was successful in making it nearly impossible to use the game without going through the patcher.

It's not until you get past the patcher and vggame.exe tries to start that it says "vggame.exe is already running", it seems. This isn't something you could bypass?

Salutations,

I havent tested it myself, but i was told that you could using -newwindow as a switch. So - give it a shot and let us know if it works :)

The error code you got in beta when trying to run two instances told you to append -newwindow to the command line. It didn't work though. I think the problem was that you needed -newwindow appended to VGclient.exe, but as has been stated, you must start the game with Vanguard.exe. Unless there's a way to use -newwindow on an exe that another program starts, that's not an option.

I looked at this tonight and I know why the -newwindow thing isn't implimented yet: because it currently crashes the client (it doesn't have the code necessary).

So, the short answer is that you simply have to wait for SOE to fix this issue. So, I suggest everyone bug the hell out of them to fix it so you can run multiple instances AND a way to bypass the patcher.

I may continue to look at it occassionally; however, time is very limited and there's better things for me to be trying to add to the extension.

the "newwindow" switch is acutally in LaunchPad.exe and allows for multiple copies of the patcher to run. LaunchPad.exe is used for most all SoE games and is most likely a switch for other products.
