8/20/2012 Update: Lessons 1 to 3 posted. Please note, it is posted on the ismods.com forums. These forums FORBID anything that breaks EULA, such as ISXEQ2. These walkthroughs are for using LavishScript, not EQ2. If you have any LavishScript coding questions, that aren't specific to EQ2 or ISXEQ2, you can post them on those forums. If you have any questions regarding EQ2 or ISXEQ2, post them here.

I've had plenty of people ask me how to get into scripting, where is the best spot to start learning. Which leads to a few issues.

If you don't have any programming experience at all, your best option is to use free online tutorials for another software (c++, C#, etc) to get basic programming language skills, then learn the syntax of LavishScript. This isn't the most ideal situation, but it's been the best available. Once you had those basic skills, you could then start looking at other peoples scripts to see what they do, how people did them etc.

If people are interested, I will hold 1-2hour seminars to teach LavishScript
Confirming that Kannkor is easily one of the top 5 in LavishScript knowledge outside of LavishSoft itself.

And that his code design doesn't suck

After Kannkor finishes his series, perhaps Zandros could do one as well. His VGA script (for Vanguard) is quite impressive. You all should definitely look into it for further examples on excellent scripting (and it's 100% open source on the isxScripts SVN.)

Remind me when you pick your times and announce them and I'll make it into a blog/announcement posting or whatever.

I'm planning to go ahead with this.

I'm working on a course plan, so you'll be able to see a general outline of the topics for the day.

I'll post more about a time frame of when this will happy, it'll be late March, or April as I'm out of town for a week in March.

A friend is letting us use his conferencing software, so I'm going to take some time to play with it first, to try to avoid bugs the first session. I'll update more as I get information.

This is still planned. Now that I'm back at home, I'm working on a course plan. I'll be posting with more information shortly.

First session will be [Time removed, because it was Easter Sunday. Will post with a new date shortly]. Planning 60-90 minutes, pending questions and what not.

In the next few days, I'll start a new post that has more detailed information about what will be in this session. I will also be holding 1 (or a few if there's issues) technical test, to make sure the desktop sharing and what not all works fine. This will all be included in the post in the next few days.

Apparently I picked Easter Sunday without realizing it... I'll change the date, probably to the following weekend.

Have you thought of recording your class and posting it here? I would love to join weekends are impossible for me.

should we still be anxious for some juicy learning soon?
Yes, I had some ... "things" happen in RL shortly after I posted that prevented me from being available. Then it was Easter, then the GU hit, so trying to wait a week or 2 for people to slow down from the GU. I'm thinking maybe Sunday May 13th. (I'm not available May 6th). I'll post for sure shortly.

Umm I believe the 13th is Mother's Day.

Haha. Trolling ftw! The planning for this reminds me of the writer's forum I hosted on deployment. Never did I get more than 11 people to show up each week and never did the same 11 people show up. Always felt like I was teaching the same class each time.

Had I not been deployed Kannkor, I would have joined. Still thinking of trying it again?

RL has been... Interesting the last while, so I haven't been able to hard schedule something. I'm thinking I may record it, then I can do Q&A along side of it, but worst case, if I can't be avaliable, the session can still be there, and people can still watch if they miss one.

Recording this would be absolutely awesome for me personally back a couple years ago I did a littled "editing" when ROK launched and my knowledge is completely useless at this time I'm experimenting tho and trying to learn how to use the scripts that are currently available, but back to my main point recording would be golden for me as my work/social gaming schedule is absolutely all over the place I'm in a raiding guild so that's about all the commitment i can give to my hobby.

It's been a while since I updated this. Here is the latest update.

I couldn't find any time period I could completely commit to with enough notice, that I kept pushing it off. Instead of trying to do a live feed, instead I'm going to do the following, with thoughts of additional.

The first thing I'm doing, is making it much more indepths, that I can put it into print with examples that people can work through. It has real code that you can copy/paste to see examples, and it explains everything.

One of the additional things I'd like to do, is to hold voice/screen sharing sessions for people who wish to ask questions, whether they are stuck, and/or have specific questions. IE: I see how you added two variables together, but what if I wanted to ____ them.

It is coming, I promise :)

Thank you Amadeus for the compliment. I would love to share my style of writing scripts for ISXVG to any interested. I have a basic understanding of writing scripts and most of what I do are from crazy ideas. The scripts I write I try my best to keep simple for any to read/edit as well as explaining what I am trying to accomplish.

I'm currently deployed in Africa and my availbility time is limited but I'll do my best to check often what other's are interested in.

Please see original post, I have updated it. Lessons 1 to 3 posted!
Thanks a ton for posting the lessons.
They are super handy for getting a refresher on something I may not happen to remember,
most of the wikis set up for support assume we have great prowess at scripting, and think we rarely need examples for what they consider obvious.
What you've got posted is nearly at the peak of my self taught scripting abilities, and I would love to see 2 things added.
Arrays & Iterating.
I'd like learn to go through the broker or my bags or actors in the zone near me.

Hello, I have been out of gaming for awhile now and am returning, finally! Life can be really terrible, but I survived. I noticed you have added the tutorials up after so long of a wait! I have read all of them and was wondering will you continue on? I am still anxious to learn more about this subject.

Thank you.
