Win8 install issues

Hey all,

I need some help. I attempting to install the innerspace/isxeq2 on to a new laptop. Innerspace seems to be working fine. I can fire up eq2 no problem.
When I attempt to "ext isxeq2" I get this:
"C:/Program Files (x86)/Innerspace/Extensions/isxeq2.dll could not be loaded into memory as a Win32 library Extension isxeq2 could not be loaded"
It also gives me a popup about the .dll.

I've searched the boards, and this seems to be a common error from time to time, usually due to bad install (probably my fault) or corrupted files due to anti-virus software.

I have gone through the proper steps on adding game/configuration/etc to load isxeq2 on startup.

I have disabled my AV, I have restarted, I have uninstalled/reinstalled, I have uninstalled/reinstalled with a restart in between, after, etc.

One thing I did notice, the isxeq2.dll did NOT install with the install wizard. I had to manually add it through a DL link I found while searching.

My system is Win 8.0 64 bit. Any ideas would be appreciated. I've spent an hour on this. I need a break.

Thanks in advance.

"C:/Program Files (x86)/Innerspace/Extensions/isxeq2.dll

Delete or move that file to /Extensions/ISXDK34/

Thank you for your replies gentlemen.

Deleted the dll in the innnerspace folder. Downloaded the new dll from the link provided in Announcements. Placed it into ISXDK34 after deleting he one that was already there. I'm getting two popup errors now, same error code for both, and as before except it is for the .dll in the ISXDK34 folder.

I'm very new to windows 8. Would there be a permission I need to change? My SVN repository updates fine. I had to change a few permissions for that.

I'm pretty stumped.

If you could think of anything else I would appreciate your efforts.

Uninstall Innerspace.

Reinstall Innerspace in a directory that is not inside of the Program Files. On my Win8 machine I installed it to C:\My Programs\Innerspace\. I haven't had any permission issues.

Did you properly "install" InnerSpace? Or, did you just copy it over from somewhere?

If you installed it, then maybe I need to test and make sure that the ISXEQ2 installer properly finds the innerspace installation directory with windows 8 ...but, honestly, seems like I would have heard about this by now if it was an issue.

You're probably right Amadeus. I'm sure this is on my end (user error) somehow. This is an out of the box, spank'n new laptop. No cut and paste of files.

bjcasey: That may fix my problem. I have it all installed in Program Files (x86). I'm working like a fool this weekend, I will try this asap.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate the help.

Ok, I've moved IS and ISX to C:\My Programs, I've uninstalled and reinstalled my AV, cleared IS.exe when it dinged the AV, manually allowed ISXEQ2.dll with AV. Ive uninstalled IS, reinstalled IS, done the same with ISXEQ2. I've never made it to the prompt window to enter my subscription info. It's an immediate "nope nope" with the error below. (I've listed the error in the IS console above)

The popup error I get reads:
Title: Everquest2.exe
Description:The procedure entry point _except1 could not be located in they dynamic link library C:\My Programs\Innerspace\Extensions\ISXDK34\isxeq2.dll

My desktop is a Win7 machine, I've had no issues getting it up and running again with IS and ISX. I'm absolutely stumped on this Win8 Laptop... I cannot think of anything else I can do. Could you please advise?

You can install Teamviewer on that computer and then PM me (on IRC, here or email) with the info to log on to that machine and see what I can do. Sometimes I can't get to it until late at night (Pacific time) so you might have to just leave the computer on and idle for me.

That's the only other thing I can think of. If you're able to get it working on Win7 machines, it should work on Win8 as well.

Could you maybe try all of this without an anti-virus program installed just to see if it works?

I sent Teamviewer info to Amadeus@isxgames.com

I have tried with and without the AV. It looks like the AV would be chewing on the file, but with no AV, I was still receiving the same error.

I do appreciate both of your time, and I hope we can resolve this :)

*edit* Oh, I use the same AV on both computers. The desktop with Win7 installed and worked fine. Norton 360

Win 8 is a pita for administrator rights for stuff. If you're not already running as admin, you might want to try doing the whole process again logged in as such.

Running as Admin. People keep calling off at work, so I've officially became a vampire/zombie. I'll attempt to look for a general .dll permission issue on the interwebs tonight. Maybe that will help my cause. I actually don't mind Win8 at all, except for this, which is unexpected. I would install Win7 and be done with this mess, but it's a touch screen so...

I appreciate everyone's input :)

Some additional info:

I do not make it to the prompt to search for the eq2.exe file, nor enter my account info to verfiy my subscription.

So, we could basically fix this issue with other players by telling them to be sure that they've applied all available updates on "windows update"?
