Fantastic, that worked, thanks so much
While you're forum browsing, maybe you could answer a question I have on Ogre, seeing as you wrote it
I'm loathed to pay a 3rd sub to get what I'm trying to do done, ie, Lavish, ISX and Ogre, could you tell me if all 3 would be overkill or perfect for what I need....
I'm playing a Pally in EQ2, and I'd like my Inq and Dirge to follow me around instances keeping me alive and doing some extra DPS. I've used EQ2Bot so far in one easy instance, and it seemed to work okay, but I'm really unsure if it would handle something challenging, or if Ogre is needed for that kind of task.
I'm sure as it's your software you could be biased, but can you tell me what Ogre would do in this scenario that EQ2Bot cannot?
Thanks
I refreshed the forums, answered any questions then took off for a while... So slightly delayed response.
I'm extremely biased... So take this with a grain of salt, I'm very proud of Ogrebot.
A lot depends if you're happy with "okay". If you want something that does "okay" and you'll never want to change it. For me, and most of my users, that's not good enough. To play the min/max game (working as efficiently as possible, basically), you need to have the ability to change things, based on your scenario. Let me give you a recent scenario I had. Keep in mind, I've only seen screen shots of eq2bot and what not, I've not actually had any/much experience with using it.
I was doing Skyshrine HM instances, so they cast the Fire of something that puts the red stuff on the ground and you die if it lands on you. To prevent this, it's easist (IMO) if you have a coercer just chain cast their 1.5s reuse ability that interupts, it's also a nuke. In Ogrebot, I click on Hemmorage (sp?), and drag it to the top of the list. Done. Everything else remains the same.
In EQ2Bot, I believe there is a "stun mode" option, but what does that do? I suspect it puts ALL their stuns in priority over everything else. I don't want him casting useless "stun" spells, the interupt on this 1 spell is enough, and I don't want to slaughter his DPS by casting all the stuns. If you wanted to do the equal in eq2bot, you would have to open up a class file, and edit code. Which depending on who you are, is fine, or a nightmare.
Take cast orders, EQ2bots is hardcoded (what I mean by that, if you wish to change the order, you have to edit code). Ogrebots is completely UI driven. It's list boxes you can reorder, add remove all with the click of a mouse. (
http://eq2.ogregaming.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tab:CAs ).
If you plan to raid (be one toon, or multiple), Ogrebot's raid code is far superior EQ2bot. (If you want more info here let me know, but you mentioned playing 3 toons, so I suspect you aren't a raider/care about raid options).
Ease of upgrading abilities. I, like many others, are expecting level increases to come in 2 level increments for a while. With eq2bot, you need to manually edit a spell list to use a new ability. With Ogrebot, it's automatic. You type "ogre spell", and it will automatically go through and read your spell book, and update the list with any missing (or new) abilities, including AAs. Then, after reloading the bot, your new abilities are instantly available. No editing!
In the end, it comes down to what you want out of the experience. If you have to drive down the street to get milk, it doens't matter if you take a pinto, or a porche. If you plan on street racing, you probably won't want to take the pinto.
If you want, start a new topic inside of Ogrebot forums (here, just a subforum) with any questions you have, or what other people have gotten from going from eq2bot to Ogrebot. Getting feedback from users may be more beneficial than the guy who wrote it and thinks it's amazing
Oh, and IMO, it's the only publically available bot with active development, meaning new features/bug fixes continually come. Which may, or may not be important to you.
