Hopefully this explains it better.
In the first stage of many work orders you have one of two choices. First choice, which is what the bot always goes for requires you to have in your inventory a material (which is optional). The other choice is to not use any of your own materials. I'm talking things like Basal Slabs, or Barbed Timber, etc.
If such optional item is not in your inventory the bot will insist on trying option 1 and ignore option 2; meaning it goes nowhere but causes the game to spam like crazy posting to chat, "Missing item: Basalt slab" until it is overridden manually by clicking on the correct choice.
That's why I suggested a checkbox to allow the crafter to choose whether or not to use the optional materials. The only real bonus is a small starting increase in quality. Yes, I do use mats when I have them, but I don't typically have enough for an hour or more of crafting.
